Prayer: The Art of Going Within

The Alphabet of Prayer

I pray at the altar, I pray when I breathe

I pray in the car, I pray in disease

I pray when I’m eating, I pray when I fall

I pray unto God, I pray down the hall

 I just pray, pray, pray

 I just pray, pray, pray

 Oh, Lord, hear me pray

I pray with intention, I pray with my jokes

I pray with my kindness, and when I emote

I pray when I’m needy, and when I’m OK

I pray for the people, I pray when I quake

 CHORUS

I pray to relax, I pray when I sing

I pray with my tears, I pray to the unseen

I pray with my voting, I pray wishfully

Expectant and yearning, I pray A to Z

“Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep…” Thank you, Lord, for these gifts we are about to receive from Thy bounty…” “God, help me!!! Take this away…” “God is on our side…ready, aim, fire!” “ My Lord, smite down mine enemy…” “God, please make her mine…” Why me, Lord?!”…on and on they go, these supplications of the Divine to intervene on our behalf. Typical when the sh*t has hit the fan, or we feel overwhelmed and are calling out as a last resort. Prayer…a powerful spiritual tool that has as many interpretations as there are religions, practices, and people. Used, misused, abused, and manipulated…

Children are taught prayers that reflect the religious preferences of the parental units. The culture demands devotion and force feeds rhetoric, “I pledge allegiance to the flag…”  Words of substance are repeated into meaningless dogma, “Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name…”

Most have lost the power of prayer, or never even knew what it could do because their personal relationship with it was taken away.  Where do you stand with it? What has been your history?  Is it even part of your moments of living anymore?

Tonight we begin to remember the power of personal communication with the Divine and reawaken the tenderness of reaching out to Source and receiving back in kind and insight. …and we expand even further!

Prayer is an individual process typically between you and You, the Creative Source. There are elements that can augment the dialogue.
